It took me 60 years and I am still not totally there.
Love these words of yours about self esteem and being an artist:
"but I could resolve to claim it fully eventually. This became an intentional effort, and one we must all make. Resolve to do this for yourself. Claim your right to be the authentic artist you deserve to be." I think that this is a pre-requisite to productivity and doing meaningful work. I am not there yet, but working on it. If you don't respect yourself and what you do, no one else will.
Best to all of you,
SondraSondrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01945769858274010195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5120593322934217357.post-83234917688805208852010-04-03T05:46:05.918-07:002010-04-03T05:46:05.918-07:00We seem to forget that none of us springs full blo...We seem to forget that none of us springs full blown into the role of "Artist" in any respect, whether it is doing the work or accepting the title.gousleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13469429877396633648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5120593322934217357.post-49055871357521985052010-04-02T08:57:12.740-07:002010-04-02T08:57:12.740-07:00Great story Jane. I'm working harder at over coming my shyness, so now I can say if Garrison and Jane can do it , so can I!Linda Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05009179379851379466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5120593322934217357.post-67694510598898743702010-04-02T08:40:21.933-07:002010-04-02T08:40:21.933-07:00I loved your story so much! GK is coming here to Atlanta on my b'day weekend, but I haven't seen or heard of any tickets to the show arriving at our home. Darn! I guess I shouldn't have been so subtle when dropping hints! Last night we met a friend at a local art gallery and when he asked when he could see my work, I just demurred. Surprisingly, my husband became my promoter! I vow to do better in the future!

xoJudyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04787074582148834510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5120593322934217357.post-57113315246868004762010-04-01T11:01:19.500-07:002010-04-01T11:01:19.500-07:00Indeed! I once startled my dear husband on vacation: A woman at the pool asked out of the blue, "Are you a quilter?" Accustomed to hear my usual self-deprecating reply, my husband was surprised to hear me say, "Yes, I am." It felt good. When people admire my work and say, "You're a real artist!" I simply say thank you and let their praise warm my heart. I learn and grow and learn some more, thank you for sharing a fun story and the realization that accompanied it.Jackiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04730298448632087144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5120593322934217357.post-59795748229396723302010-04-01T08:53:04.780-07:002010-04-01T08:53:04.780-07:00Loved this story. I have a friend whose mother worked on the show and they often had the after parties at his mother's home. He said that you would be surprised at how shy Garrison is in person.Gerriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06292762162661584206noreply@blogger.com
